March Newsletter

Ok guys the weather is changing, the snow is melting and lakes are thawing. I have heard even a few guys have been out fishing, Matter of fact one day I was trying to sleep and some one kept sending me pictures via cell phone of some nice fish they were catching. THAT’s NOT NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

To start off the board met for our March meeting to address a few issues that were brought to the table.

1st off a draw rule. What we will vote on at our next meeting is a bylaw that will address the tournament draw. If you are a boater or co-angler and don’t receive a partner in the draw you will be guaranteed the first pull out of the hat for a partner for the next scheduled tournament.

2nd and this is a good one, is a different point system for scoring year end awards and 6 man team standings. This was brought up back in January and we should of addressed it sooner. What we came up with as a board is a point system based on the B.A.S.S. point system. This system is fair for everyone and will keep everyone in the race. Below is a sample of the system we want to use from here on out. What the system does is rewards all participants and keeps them in the hunt for year end awards. Example: you fish the Cal Sag, Fish Hard and catch 5 fish weighing 6 lbs and take first place you are awarded 96 points then at lake Wisconsin a angler catches 10 lbs finishes 4th and is awarded 160 points. The person winning the cal sag worked hard and gets almost no points compared to someone finishing 4th and getting 160 points. With the new system the cal sag winner would receive 99 point for heaviest weight and 1 point bonus for each pound giving them 105 points and the 4th place finisher at Lake Wisconsin would be awarded 92 points for 4th place and a bonus of 10 points for his fish giving him a total of 102 points. It will also keep it fair for the guys who fish the majority of the tournament including the places that can be hit or miss and then have a few guys fish only the key locations, catch giant bags, catch and pass them in points in three or four tournaments.

Ok so it looks like this:

PLC      Name                       Weight                Pnts          Wght Pnts          Total

1st   Joe Browning               15.95 lbs           99pnts            16 pnts             115

2nd  Mel Hedrick                 13.23 lbs           98pnts            13 pnts             111

3rd   Zach Miller                    9.75 lbs           96pnts            10 pnts             106

4th   Mike Towe                     5.09 lbs           94pnts              5 pnts               99

5th   Greg waldon                   3.89 lbs           92pnts              4 pnts               96

6th   Mike Bochenek              2.01 lbs           90pnts              2 pnts               92

7th   Teddy M.                           .89 lbs            88 pnts             1 pnt                89

8th   Jim Keating                      .88 lbs            86 pnts             1 pnt                87

9th   Les James                             0                  43 pnts              0                     43

10th Jim O’Malley                       0                  43 pnts              0                     43

The last person to catch a fish finishes the weight points, and any person after that receives half of the final points with fish.

This is similar to BASS scoring system and would keep the race close. We would NOT have to include 8 additional point for everyone’s participation point because they will receive point no matter what for coming out greater then 8 points.

Each Board member was given a list of members to call and get their vote on this we want to have this change in place for our first tournament.

Now for a few notes to all club member’s this is a small reminder of some basics.

  1. Boaters we need a copy of your boat insurance.
  2. Co angler please remember to bring a suitable life vest, Boater might not have one that fits.
  3. All cost are split equally down the middle, Gas, Tolls (this one is always forgotten about), Ramp fees, Hotel accommodations, and on the new boat don’t be surprised if a boater includes oil ( new motors require very expensive oils some times as much as $60.00 For 2 gallons), as a co-angler please be ready to help out, ask the boater how much you owe him and split some of the cost during the trip don’t expect them to pay for everything and you pay at the end,  there is a lot that goes into the boaters end before and after a tournament, so please be kind and be proactive and every one will enjoy the trip.
  4. Travel arrangements are up to the boater and co-angler, as a boater you are responsible to arrange a ride for your partner if you want to go earlier then they can leave.  If this arrangement can’t be made you must wait for them(with in reason)
  5. Boaters the co-angler is your guest treat them that way. Ask them to get the net don’t demand it. If he has a fish on, you are on your own. Also he’s not there just to clean your boat while you shoot the shit, help him. And Co-angler please help wipe the boats down this helps a ton and clean up your garbage, don’t leave all your plastics laying around.
  6. Co-angler please remember all boats are not the same size so please keep a tight ship and loose stuff to a minimum. Ask if the boater has a cooler, some do some don’t, and tackle this is a tough one because you don’t want to be with out but please remember there has to be a place for it.

I hope I did not forget anything but sometimes we need a reminder of the small things, this is the start to another great season and I hope the participation is high because I love to WHOOP YA’ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Good fishin and always be safe.

Thank you,

Big Joey B
