August Newsletter

AugNL

The season is flying by, we are already in August and have had some great tournaments already, from Kentucky lake to Sturgeon Bay.  We still have a few good outings to go and then the classic. At our July meeting Mel, your Tournament chair, released the lake name and location.  If you did not attend the info will be posted on the site soon. If you plan to attend or I should say get in the classic draw (remember no arrangements for the classic) please send me a email so I can track this to arrange food and Mel can adjust accomadations.

This year I was unable to attend a few outings and I can tell you I miss it !! Every time we go somewhere we learn something new about fishing, boating and the people we travel with. I learned something new my last trip about sharing.  I was given a gold mine spot I never even had to search for and it produced fishing memories and stories for a lifetime.  It even made one of the oldest members in the club jump up and down like a young boy. By sharing their spot with us everyone had a trip they can talk about for a lifetime. I’m sure there was some regret of sharing that spot cause we all have that competitive edge in us and when you pull up on your spot and see the whole club there…well I’m sure you all know the feeling I’m talking about, but we worked thru it and everyone had a great day.  I don’t think anyone that day cared what place they came in, (OK maybe one).  It was all about having a great time with the club and the guys in it. A few guys caught their largest fish ever and some caught the most weight they ever weighed in and it was all because our members share.  From fishin holes to tools and boat parts, and this is one reason I love being in this club.

Now I know a lot of you are looking for the up to date standings and we are a little behind. I spoke to Mel and I told him I would give him a hand in calculating the standings, it’s a tough job. To me the hardest on the club board. As soon as we get it all put together we will get them to zach to post. Please don’t blame Zach or ask him why they are not posted he puts stuff up as soon as we give it to him, he just does not have the info yet. I know this is important to you guys and it’s also what makes the club fun.  So we will do a better job posting info right away.  Remember this is your club so if you have any ideas or wanna just give a hand and help in something please speak up.

The news letter and tournament report have fallen way behind also and I will try and do a better job at this, getting the info out is a time consuming job but very important even if it is just the basic info. We have fished a bunch of tournaments this year and not everyone has made it to them, but everyone wants to know whats goin on, so the tournament report is important.

This years Club Open did not have the turn out we were hoping for. Things were tough, construction trades were out of work and Nascar was in Joliet but we still put on a good tournament paying out 3 places. 1st place paid out $700.00, 2nd place $300.00, and 3rd place $200.00 with a 15 boat field. We had hot dogs, polish’s and brats donated to the club from a vendor of Teddy Minassian. Also thanks to the guys that donated a few bucks to buy buns and chips, water and soda. This year after we set up and every thing was up and running I made a list of the people needed for take off and to hold the weigh in along with all the supplies used, so next year we will be better prepared. Also in our off season i would like to think about holding a second open tournament possibly on the Desplains river out of big bassin or the conservation area to see where we would have a better turn out and if both go well maybe we could hold two every year. This is a thought it’s a lot of work in setting up and taking down.

Well we have just a little to go in the 2010 season and looking at the standings it gonna be a close one again down to the last tournament so keep it up guys!  This is what makes it what it is.  Who’s gonna get the bragging rights???????

Thanks

Big Joey B
